Jumping the fence | Photographer Friesland

October 26, 2021

A spontaneous couple’s session in the Frisian countryside. Last weekend I visited one of my best friends in her home province of Friesland. It’s so nice to get out of The Hague every now and then, as much as I love the city. I always take the train to get there and really enjoy the ride and the views. Even though the landscape is always flat, it still changes quite a lot and I love watching the wide fields and windmills pass by.
Even though it was supposed to be a weekend off for me, I still can’t keep my hands off my camera. As a couple’s photographer, I had to ask those two to take some photos with me, of course. We went for a little walk around the area where Rianne lives and found a field where we – sorry mum! – jumped the fence and had a little session. Both of them were pretty unsure whether a couples photoshoot was really their thing – like most people they had very awkward photos in mind that they would never want to show to anyone. I totally get this, I think we’ve all seen the photos where your first reaction is: criiingeee!
However I managed to convince them to trust me, and – as pretty much everytime – they were pleasantly surprised and said it was even a lot of fun.

Most couples I’ve spoken to say they remember it as a very fun event and experience with their partner, not as something horrible and embarrassing they want to forget about. This is my goal as a couple’s photographer: make it an enjoyable experience that ‘my’ couples will remember in a positive way.

All of us were a little hungover and tired from a game night we had the evening before, it was cold, the grass was wet and the sun was gone, but soon we all were having a lot of fun and the two of them were really easing into the experience. I got them to run around a little bit, do a little dance and lots of hugging. All in all a really fun evening with some great photos that the two of them can share with their families.
